Summer walking season at Mt Hotham starts Saturday
3 December

Mt Hotham's walking season kicks off on Saturday 3 December, so dig out your hiking gear and prepare to hit the trails!
The RMB's Visitor Information Office will be open 7 days per week, 9;00am to 4:00pm. We'll also be running FREE guided walks again in January, stay tuned for more information about dates or check the Events page on the Hotham website.
Mt Hotham's tracks and trails are ready for summer

The RMB's tracks and trails team has been busy in the lead-up to the start of the summer hiking season on 3 December, and all tracks are now ready for public use.

It's still a bit wet out there, but the team has fixed all the major drainage issues cause by the wet spring weather, and they'll continue working on signage, brush cutting and erosion control over the next few weeks. Find out more about hiking at Mt Hotham.

Hiker access to Loch car park area

Works are continuing on the Alpine Gateway facility at the Loch carpark area, so there is no public parking at that location over summer.  We encourage hikers to park at the Corral car park or The Cross if they need to access the trails starting at the Loch carpark, which includes The Huts Walk, Mt Loch, and the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing.

Welcome to new RMB staff

Mt Hotham RMB welcomes Maya Shin, Environmental Officer. Maya holds a Bachelor of Geography and Politics and a Masters of Environmental Science and joins Bev Lawrence in the Environmental team.

Maya is a keen snowboarder, having done eight seasons between Buller, Niseko and Perisher, which influenced her to focus her studies on the Australian alpine climate and environment. She is very excited to have the opportunity to work in this unique and diverse ecosystem, and also snowboard all winter.

Mt Hotham Bushfire Preparation Information Weekend 10-11 December 2022

Come along and speak to your local CFA team and Mt Hotham Resort Management's Property and Environment teams about keeping your property safe during the summer bushfire period.

Not only will you get valuable information and advice, we're also giving all participating properties a plant from the RMB's Alpine Nursery.

Saturday 10 December: 10.30am-1.30pm - RMB staff from Property, Environment and available for questions.
Sunday 11 December - Free CFA property advice visits (bookings essential)

RMB enquiries: environmental@mthotham.com.au or property@mthotham.com.au.

Updated dog permit policy

The Mt Hotham RMB dog permit policy has been reviewed and updated, with the following changes:

Mt Hotham Resort Management will offer a short-term dog permit that is valid for visits less than 10 days and only available from October 22 – 31 May 2023. Due to the environmental impact of dogs at Mt Hotham, these permits are being phased out and will not be available after the end of the 2022-23 summer period.

All current
All current permit holders are guaranteed a permit in future years for the life of the existing permitted dog, as long as permit owners continue to meet the eligibility criteria.

Year-round Mt Hotham employees who do not live in Mt Hotham will no longer be eligible for a dog permit.

RMB support for dog management

To support the safe and effective management of dogs in the resort, the RMB will require all year-round dog permit holders to walk dogs on an RMB issued dog lead, with an RMB dog tag attached. This serves to readily identify dogs that are permitted, and ensures that all dogs are on the same length and style of lead.

In addition, dog waste bins have been installed, and additional resort signage to help educate and inform guests.

To further support the management of dogs the RMB has trained several Authorised Officers who will monitor the resort, provide education to dog owners, and have the capacity to issue infringements to non-compliant dog owners.

For more more information please visit the Mt Hotham RMB website.
